As the first Patient Safety fellow, Dr. Henderson has:

- Developed Patient Safety educational materials for medical staff

- Developed and implemented the Acute Care Team (The purpose of this team is to more rapidly identify, evaluate and treat patients with decompensating conditions to prevent unexpected codes and deaths.)

- Developed and implemented Central Venous Catheter (CVC) Procedural Competency for All Housestaff

-Changed the format of the Medicine department Morbidity and Mortality housestaff conference to reflect James Reason’s systems-based approach to medical errors

- Initiated a code committee within the medical education division of the Medicine department to address issues of resident education around codes

- Worked on a research project with Dr. Clay Dunagan on a clinical validation of the AHRQ patient safety indicator for postoperative pulmonary embolism and deep venous thrombosis.  The results of this study will be submitted for publication and will be utilized by the BJC Center for Healthcare Quality and Effectiveness as they attempt to choose a methodology for tracking venous thromboembolic events in our system hospitals.
